Pioneers

WELCOME TO PIONEERS AT TRINITY HOUSE

This was the year our lives changed, again!  As the boys turned 12 months old, they both started to walk, opening up yet another world of possibilities.

Our little pioneers began to explore their surroundings in a completely different way, developed their own ways to communicate and feed independently (often uniquely... who knew one can eat yogurt with a fork)!

Their imaginations began to run wild and the songs we sang & games we played were novel. They learned numbers, letters, colours, shapes and their vocabulary began to build day by day.  Our house was filled with arts, crafts, photos, paintings, snow globes, telescopes, potted seeds… the list is endless so all we can suggest is make some space!

Adjusting to a new routine in Pioneers

As your child transitions from Adventurers to Pioneers the daily routine evolves.  Our toddlers usually drop to one nap at this age, and so we work towards a routine where toddlers have a sleep after lunch.

We work closely with the Baby Room to ensure transitions to the room are smooth, and again with those transitioning to eXplorers, ensuring routines are passed on.  Parents are consulted on all room movements, and we give you, your child and key person opportunities to bond before these changes take place.

Home from home for us means that at this age we work around you and your routine

Mirroring your home routine also ensures a smoother transition into nursery life

How do we support our Pioneers?

It’s all about fun, play and stimulation at this age!  Every child is unique and we work to ensure we find something to engage every one of our little Pioneers!

Our key highlights include:

Room set up to encourage Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learning and development.

Children’s fine and gross motor skills rapidly expand at this age so we focus on physical activities to support this, including dancing, exploring and investigating.

Whereas activities for babies are usually floor based, in Pioneers we encourage activities at different levels and this variety is important to help children extend their imagination, curiosity and physical abilities.

Our age-appropriate activities include:

Outdoor sand and water play, creative and messy play activities, role-play/make-believe using props.

Stories in our indoor reading corner & outdoor gazebo, action songs and lots of musical and movement activities.

Physical play on the climbing frame, bikes, trikes, bats and balls, wet weather exploring encouraged in the Forest School.

Connection with the environment encouraged through planting and digging in the garden’s vegetable patches.

Communication skills, verbal and non-verbal, encouraged by asking children about their wants, needs, likes and dislikes.

Encourage play with peers to form independence and friendships.

Lastly, meal times at this age are a social occasion.  Children eat together and we assist them to do independently.  They learn to drink from open cups, and also learn personal hygiene including washing their face and hands before and after meal times.

Food & Nutrition

All our food is freshly prepared daily on site by our Chef and we cater for all religious and dietary needs. We serve breakfast, snack, lunch and tea and offer a variety of refreshments throughout the day, including fresh fruit and milk. Children with allergies and food intolerances are supported.

How can we support you as a parent?

Many parents particularly mums are returning to work as children transition into Pioneers which creates challenges around pick up and drop off.  We support you through early drop off and late pick up options, and a grab and go coffee station for that extra pick me up! In addition to extra hours and flexibility we encourage you to speak and work with your Key person as your child enters another phase of growth and development.

We’ll work with you to suggest activities they may enjoy at home, how to address any challenges with feeding or sleep schedules, and do what we can to make this phase as enjoyable as possible!
